Paul Hackett - OHIO-2

So why post about a race in Ohio?

Because they understand what it's like to be the bastard state of the union during a crucial election.

But more importantly, because a good Democrat is running to win.

Paul Hackett has the best shot at picking up this seat that any Democrat has had in a long long while.

He is a firm supporter of women's rights and a Iraq vet.

Online donations have raised enough money to make it a very competitive race and they can use any help we can give.

Donate NOW!

Think of the costs of 2 drinks at Drinking Liberally tomorrow night? Couldn't you spare that to help a fellow Dem????

An argument for sending money out-of-state to help democrats in "the bastard state of the union during a crucial election" might apply elsewhere, but to say that in Florida seems misplaced.

In Florida the majority of voters are registered Democrats, yet we don't have a Democratic governor and Democrats are the minority of the House and Senate. Moreover, the Florida Democratic Party has to fight to raise enough money to cover operating expenses.

Why send even the cost of one drink to Ohio when there are firm supporters of women's rights and Iraq veterans locally who need our support?

Because being a Democrat means being a democrat throughout the country and when one of our own is fighting in a special election that is getting national attention it'd be nice to help him out and start midterms with a win.

I respectfully disagree with your point, since it is the same as asking, "Why send even the cost of one drink to fight poverty and disease to Africa or other third world countries when there are poor and sick people in America?"

You're devotion to the national democratic party is commendable, and it's impressive you've offered your own time traveling to Ohio and supporting Paul Hackett.

I understand your desire to help a good Democrat that is running to win, but I don't understand your extension of my previous question. It was not my intention to compare Florida and Ohio in the way you compare America and third world countries, nor was it my my intention to compare a political campaign to global efforts to fight poverty and disease.

What you're doing sets an amazing example for other democrats who have the means to support nationally contentious campaigns, and a misinterpretation shouldn't take away from that. I'm looking forward to hearing more about your experiences when you return to Tallahassee, and I hope you'll be willing to share your zeal when our local races start to heat up.
